Rocky Mount Public Utilities
The City of Rocky Mount, North Carolina was incorporated on February 19, 1867 and began to provide public utilities in 1899 with the initial establishment of the water system, which was followed by the wastewater system. In 1902, electric power was added to services provided by Rocky Mount Public Utilities, and a few years later Rocky Mount became the first city in North Carolina to operate its own gas system. Rocky Mount operates a public utilities system with over 30,000 households receiving electricity, natural gas, water, and/or sewer services. The City of Rocky Mount has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and, likewise, the utilities are growing and expanding.
